Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man by Marshall McLuhan
It was an engrossing and a difficult book. McLuhan doesn’t always explain and so it is hard to understand what exactly he means. As the book progresses, more things come together. I don’t know if I’d say everything he said made sense, but much of it did, and some of it was very compelling. It is a different cast of mind, an associative and nomadic way of addressing things. I think the best thing is to have the book and from time to time re-read pertinent chapters as one is thinking about this or that medium.
