You may appreciate this, to study, if you are still painting birds in flight. There’s such a variety of positions.
I should learn to paint better. But you really have to put your life into it and it isn’t what I want to put my life into.
First come my commitments, then my fiction, then reading, then painting and last of all the accordion.

I’m reading Chesterton on Browning right now – he talks about Browning as an amateur painter and how it made him a better poet. Also he said something about how, as the mind grows, the ambitions narrow.
