1611, AV

This is not how people who claim to believe, who study and regularly preach and teach the Bible usually talk about a translation or evaluate it. But it shows how they should, and how they would if they had any idea what they were talking about. It is a book review by Barton Swain of that man of letters, Bible translator, and well informed chap Robert Alter’s book on the KJV in America.

It reminds me somewhat of Randall Jarrell on the RSV, but he was in high dudgeon, and Swain is not. If you can read Jarrell on the RSV you will at least be entertained, and perhaps maybe even caused to think.
