A Pastor

Tonight the West Side Baptist Church of York, PA voted to call me as a teaching elder. Please pray for the congregation and for me.

    1. That is their term. I am not sure exactly about your second question. Baptists have two ordinations: elder and deacon. But I assume here they are prepared to ordain elders as ruling elders, without making more than a functional distinction. A teaching elder in a presbyterian polity would differ in not being a member of the local congregation. I wonder if that makes the ordination distinct. Presbyterians have three ordinations: deacon, ruling elder, teaching elder. Congregationalists, interestingly, in the 17th century at least had 4: deacon, ruling elder, teaching elder, doctor. Doctor was a local church seminary professor type of guy.
