No doubt Athanasius also occasioned hand-wringing about his tone and strong language and such. Ask yourself, though, what kind of guy keeps on fighting all his life, five periods of exile, riots, scheming, the emperor’s disfavor, the decisions of synods and councils and all that notwithstanding?
