Really, with the appearance of the Imaginative Conservative one is tempted to think the world is indeed getting better. For a few seconds.
It could be worse, of course. I don’t think anybody really thinks it couldn’t be worse than it is. I could be worse than it is and soon we’ll find out in what ways–and in what ways not. Ours is to live through whatever we have to face. “It could be worse, but very good it is not.”
What helps is some measure of understanding. The Imaginative Conservative is running (very) long and sometimes old pieces, but they’re still interesting. I’m not sure how apt they are for blogging, but at least they’re available that way, and they do seem to offer reasonable bits of understanding. It could be duller and crustier. If you glance through the writings being produced by these people (in the bio at the bottom of the article), you’ll see a good bit of imaginative literature as well: fiction and poetry. It might not add up to all that much, but perhaps these end up being good leads.
