The genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror are all joined. I have thought that was joins them is wonder, for you need something both terrible and wonderful together. They are a form of escape into a world with deeper consequences and hence both the wonder and terror. Perhaps, though, what joins them is a search for a deeper world, or the desire for one elicited, and strengthened, if not always properly cultivated.
